Review: Sweeney Todd
Sweeney Todd was a man formerly known as Benjamin Barker who was wrongfully sent away to prison because an old fart of a judge lusted after his beautiful wife and wanted her for himself.
Of course, the lead character is played by Johnny Depp , which came as no surprise since the master of Goth repeatedly used the same actors in his movie and because Depp is his longtime friend. Burton’s lovely wife Helena Bonham Carter is also in this movie, which isn’t a surprise as well because she is his muse afterall.
In one word this movie is BLOODY. It’s a dark, R-rated adaptation of the Stephen Sondheim musical. The story is dragging, the subplots weren’t neatly tied up, and the whole thing is totally outrageous. Baket kaya may Golden Globe nomination itong weird na movie?
I couldn’t quite put my finger on it.
Am I the only one who didn’t LOVE it?
Hindi kasi ako Goth kaya hindi ko naappriciate ito. Hindi ko rin feel ang gitlian ng leeg and the copious amounts of blood on the floor, on the clothes, in the meat grinder to make human pie. Ewwwww! The only reason why I watched it is because it was a musical and I thought it would have great songs. Tapos when I watched it, hindi naman pala maganda yung songs. Hindi rin maganda boses ni Depp– but to be fair, it did have a lot of character. The only thing I liked in the movie was Helena Bonham’s character because she was the comic relief. She was fun to watch.
Sana PS I love you na lang ang pinanood namin. My advice: Save yourself a hundred pesos and wait for this on cable or dvd.
I give this movie one and a half popcorn bit.
